About Us
We are a luxury boutique hotel without the luxury prices. Situated directly above the pristine crystal clear waters of the Caribbean Sea, Casa Acuario (Aquarium House), is conveniently located on Isla Carenero, the smallest of the inhabited islands in Bocas del Toro, Panama. We are surrounded by abundant sea life which thrives below the hotel and is home to thousands of fish and beautifully colored soft coral. From the large wrap-around deck, you can see all the different fish glide by. It is the perfect spot to spend the day snorkeling, swimming, relaxing in a hammock, or having a cocktail while watching the boats and possibly dolphins go by!
Our small island is sprawling with coconut palms and white sand beaches and has everything to offer from restaurants featuring award winning chefs, to funky island bars, jungle treks, amazing snorkeling and one of the best surf breaks in the Caribbean. You can follow the white sand beach and walk around the entire island in a little over an hour.
No cars, no shoes, no worries!
Take a quick two minute boat taxi directly from our private dock to explore Bocas Town or go on a day adventure by boat to visit other islands and beaches. This is truly paradise for nature lovers, surfers, divers, and those that just like to hear the waves or feel the salty water on their skin. If you're looking for a little nightlife we are just a minute boat ride away from lively Bocas Town. Choose your own adventure!
The iconic Casa Acuario was built in traditional Bocas style architecture and has been welcoming guests for 25 years, long before Bocas Del Toro was known as a tourist destination. My husband and I (Mandy & JP) took ownership of Casa Acuario in 2020 and have been hard at work adding improvements and down to earth details throughout the hotel. It is bursting with personality and charm and makes you immediately feel at home. Being a longtime small-scale organic vegetable farmer and permaculturalist, and JP, a longtime winemaker, we have always enjoyed bringing people together through good food and wine. Hosting seems to run in our blood and a bit of that definitely stems from us being from New Orleans, Louisiana. We live on site with a few of our furry friends and along with our amazing staff we are always available to ensure your vacation exceeds your expectations.
